"Welcome to Underland, mate!"
A young adult fantasy epic that's a bit of Narnia meets Naruto
Underland and the Forehidden Kingdom is a serialised, young adult, fantasy novel about an overconfident bookworm who finds himself in a parallel world where words are weapons, ideologies form fortresses, and intelligence without integrity may just cost you everything.
What you think . . .
What you believe . . .
How you feel . . .
It all matters in Underland—it all has consequences.
Why am I serialising my novel?
When I started writing Underland in late 2020, serial fiction was not on my radar. I was having so much fun writing the story and building this world that I couldn’t wait to share it with others. The thing is you don’t usually share your novel with the world until after you’ve completed it, right? Wrong!
See, that’s when I discovered serial fiction.
Suddenly an avenue opened up for me to share this story as it’s being written and invite others to participate in not only reading it but making it the best it can be. Essentially, that’s you. You are my alpha readers.
What that means is this story is in progress. I will make changes as I go along and your feedback will be greatly appreciated. There are comments, you can respond to notes, there’s even a chat feature; all right here within Substack.
I love interacting with readers. I love to know if my jokes land, if the plot enthrals or if you saw that twist coming from a mile away.
The end goal
Once the novel is complete, the goal is to publish a special limited edition of the book on Kickstarter with some awesome goodies I haven’t quite figured out yet (nor currently have the budget for), and then make the completed work available on Amazon. The best way to know when this will happen is to subscribe to the newsletter.
All the current chapters of Underland are free to read and can be found indexed below.

As a faith-based fantasy novel, a lot of the writing and ideas are underpinned by theology. All of that theology can actually be found in a book I published back in 2019 called, The Kingdom, The Body, The Bride and the Tabernacle.
You can purchase it here or read the first three chapters for free here.
Hey Mr Davis, I am blown away by your Substack! It's just beautiful. I just wanted to drop you a note, I saw Nathan Slake asking about indexes, I recommended yours. Was hoping you wouldn't mind me taking a page out of your book and doing mine similarly. I await your thoughts.
What a great overview of your project and the chapters that are already available for reading. You are very advanced with your novel, congrats! 🎉
